  ACING THE ACT 2024!

  This course is designed to introduce students to the ACT exam, the more student-friendly, paper-and-pencil college entrance exam that is time-tested and accepted by all colleges and universities throughout the United States.  The ACT can be taken in conjunction with the SAT or as a non-digital, non-adaptive alternative.

  Cindy Kaplan (experienced math teacher/test prep tutor/college advisor) is President of Kaplan Tutoring Services Inc. and is the technical editor of 1,001 ACT Practice Questions for Dummies and English Grammar for Dummies among others.  She will introduce general test-taking and reading strategies, while providing a thorough review of grammar and math concepts.

  A maximum class size of 15 students will provide more personalized instruction.

  Note:  This course will prepare students to take the June 8 ACT.  Students/Parents must register  for the ACT at www.act.org  on their own.  Students who require Extended Time accommodations must make these arrangements with their school guidance office.

  Textbook and materials:  The textbook, The Official ACT Prep Guide 2023-2024 by Wiley, and other materials will be provided by the course.

  SAFE SITTER CLASS  (11 - 13 years old) Safe Sitter is more than just a babysitting course; it advocates for safe childcare, good parenting skills and responsible adolescents. Instructors are enthusiastic and committed to teens, and all are certified to teach Safe Sitter. 

  The Safe Sitter program offers children in grades 6-8 (ages 11-13) infant and child CPR and choking rescue, first aid, how to manage emergencies, babysitting as a business, injury prevention & management, behavior management, safety for the sitter, and childcare essentials. Students also receive a Safe Sitter student handbook that will serve as a reference for them.

  The Safe Sitter class is provided by Lifespan Community Health Institute which has been recognized as a Gold Level Safe Sitter Provider for teaching 138 students in 2019. Gold Providers teach over 125 students per year.

  Pirates Basketball Skills Clinic SESSION ONE (9-13 YRS OLD): Join us one evening a week for a skills clinic hosted by the Recreation Department in collaboration with the Providence Pirates. (Professional Team in the American Basketball Association)

  Providence Pirates coaching staff and players will provide instructional basketball skills clinics. Basketball fundamentals will  be the main focus during the clinics.

  WHO: Kids ages 9-13 years old

  WHEN: Monday evenings 6:15PM-7:30PM  6/24, 7/1, 7/8, 7/15, 7/22, and 7/29 (6 classes total)

  WHERE: Barrington Middle School Outdoor Basketball Courts, 261 Middle Highway, Barrington, RI

  FEE: $150  (includes a $10 nonrefundable processing fee)

  Includes two free tickets to a Pirates Game per registrant.
