SPRING PICKLEBALL 101: Pickleball is a court sport played on a badminton-sized court. It is played with a perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball and composite or wooden paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles. It is played on a court that is about 1/3 the size of a normal tennis court. The USA Pickleball Association currently estimates there are over 3 million people actively playing pickleball in America. Many children and teenagers play it in physical education classes in middle and high schools. Seniors enjoy it as well. The Barrington Recreation Department will hold 3 Pickleball 101 courses over the Fall, Winter and Spring. Each class is limited to 16 people. Taught by Cliff Teixeira from Bristol. Cliff is a USAPA Ambassador and has been teaching Pickleball in Barrington for the past year. He was instrumental in initiating Pickleball nights at the Kent Street Courts.
